Memorial Day Parade and Company H Picnic. Cherry Valley, NY

    by srcurrie

On Memorial Day 2004 the 76th NYVI, Company H marched in the parade at Cherry Valley, NY. Company H was lucky enough to have Jon Sluti back on leave from the US Marine Corps.

We marched with our Regimnetal flag aqquired in 2003 by the unit. The flagbearer was wearing what is believed to be an actual Civil War flag carrier. A ceremony was held in the Cemetary commemorating all veterans. Special mention was made of the surviving World War II veterans.

Pictures taken during the parade were sent to Baghdad to the the First Armored Division where Cherry Valley native and Army Captain David Black is serving his country.

As a historical note, the original Captain of Company H (Captain Swan) is buried in the Cherry Valley Cemetary. This year our own Captain Gary Thompson pointed the grave out to us as we marched by.
