    76th Members learn the fife

    by srcurrie

A few of the members of the 76th have been learning to play the fife as well as other period instruments. The hope is that by learning these instruments we can increase our authenticity at Living History Events.

Pictured on this page is a Peeler Fife (http://www.peelerfife.com/) which is an exact copy of a Firth and Pond of New York City fife issued to soldiers in the Civil War. Even the holes are correct to period. For those who do not know on 18th/19th century fifes all of the holes are the same size. On modern fifes the holes differ in size.

The case shown in the picture was handmade by Lori L. Paparteys aka "Vinny".
