76th New York Volunteer Infantry
Where it all began |
| The history of the 76th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment
begins here in Upstate New York. After the first battle of Bull Run
a panic swept throughout the Republic. Rapidly, average citizens
began to realize the threat to their nation. Soon cries for volunteers
were heard throughout the United States. No state answered that cry
for volunteers more than New York State.
In the case of the 76th NYVI, the regiment was raised after the defeat of the Union army at the first battle of Bull Run. Click HERE to see the notice sent to the citizens of surrounding counties for the purpose of attracting recruits. This page still under construction. |
